LFHC's Prevention Program is Changing the Lives of Children with Malnutrition

In the peaceful village of Thongchalern, Thaodavon faced a serious health crisis at just five-years-old when he was diagnosed with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM). His condition left him unable to stand and constantly fatigued, creating distress for his family. With limited resources and growing concern, they sought help at their local health centre, which had recently been equipped through the Prevention Program to better manage cases of malnutrition.

The program focuses on the first 1,000 days of a child's life, providing training to healthcare staff like Duangsamone, who played a pivotal role in Thaodavon’s recovery. Thaodavon received essential Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) and a tailored treatment plan thanks to her compassionate care and knowledge gained from the Prevention Program. Under her guidance, his condition improved significantly, allowing him to regain his strength and return to school and help his family around the house.

Thaodavon’s journey underscores the profound impact of the Pilot Prevention Program at LFHC. His recovery not only symbolizes a personal victory for his family but also highlights the importance of community health initiatives in creating brighter futures for children in Laos. By focusing on local community education, LFHC is helping ensure that more children can thrive and reach their full potential.

We would like to thank UNICEF and Child’s Dream for supporting the Prevention Project.
