LFHC's First Future Surgeon Begins Second Year of Training

Dr. Vee Thongkham is about to begin the second year of his surgical residency in Vientiane. He has thoroughly enjoyed his first year focusing on general surgery and the vast array of experience he has received during his studies.

Dr. Vee has been rotating between four hospitals in Vientiane, most recently working with the orthopedic surgical team at Mitthapap Hospital. He has gained experience observing and assisting surgeries for both children and adults.

Dr. Vee has gained a reputation for being incredibly motivated and hard-working. He spends his days off in the hospital observing procedures and often stays long after his shift to gain as much experience as possible. Due to this dedication, talent, and aptitude, Dr. Vee has been allowed to perform two surgical procedures. He operated on two children (under supervision), one with a hernia and the second on a child with a ruptured appendix.

Dr. Vee's dedication extends beyond the operating room. He takes it upon himself to support his patients' families, particularly those from LFHC. When a child is referred from LFHC for surgery in Vientiane, Dr. Vee often meets the child in person, providing a comforting presence and support to the families. His most recent act of compassion was for a child with biliary atresia, where he not only assisted with the surgery but also provided emotional support to the family.

In his second year, Dr. Vee will focus more on specializing in orthopedic surgery as he continues his vital journey to become the first qualified surgeon operating and employed by LFHC.

We'd like to thank Dr. Judy Klevan and Dr. Mark Nigogosyan for generously supporting Dr. Vee's residency.
