Fourteenth LFHC Clinician to Begin Their Three-Year Pediatric Residency

Dr. Silaoh, one of the brightest young doctors at Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC), has demonstrated exceptional clinical skills and dedication throughout his tenure. His calm demeanor under pressure and rapid learning abilities have made him an invaluable asset, particularly in his role as the clinical manager of LFHC’s Thalassemia Clinic. Here, he oversees the treatment of over 200 children each month, ensuring they receive necessary blood transfusions and consultations that allow them to live active, fulfilling lives despite their condition.

In addition to his work with thalassemia patients, Dr. Silaoh has excelled as a liaison with surgical teams visiting LFHC. His collaboration with a team of Singaporean surgeons in October 2023, who performed life-changing cleft palate surgeries and burn reconstructions for 38 children, highlights his commitment to improving the lives of young patients. He is also preparing to work with a Swiss surgical team visiting in January 2024. His role extends to all LFHC departments, where he has been instrumental in treating a record number of premature babies in 2023 and training neonatal medical professionals.

As Dr. Silaoh embarks on a new chapter, he will begin a three-year pediatric residency in Vientiane. This opportunity aligns with LFHC’s long-term goal of sustainably improving healthcare capacity across Laos. Dr. Silaoh will become the 14th doctor supported by LFHC to undertake a pediatric residency, underscoring the hospital's commitment to nurturing local talent. His advanced training will not only enhance his expertise but also enable him to return to LFHC with new skills to save young lives and further train his colleagues.

We eagerly anticipate Dr. Silaoh’s return to LFHC and the positive impact his enhanced skills will bring. Our sincere gratitude goes to the Ptarmigan Foundation for their support of his residency, making this significant advancement possible. Thank you for your continued support and for helping us build a stronger healthcare system for Laos.
