This year’s event will honor Mastercard Chief Financial Officer Martina Hund-Mejean with our first ever Excellence in Corporate Leadership Award and FWAB Board Member Michael Stern with the Best Friend of Friends Award.

Martina Hund-Mejean is chief financial officer for MasterCard. She has been named one of the “100 Most Influential People in Finance” by Treasury & Risk Management magazine on three occasions as well one of the “Most Powerful Women in Finance” by American Banker magazine for three consecutive years.

She is a member of the board of directors of Prudential Financial, Inc., a board member of the German American Chamber of Commerce and a trustee of The University of Virginia, Darden School Foundation.

 Ms. Hund-Mejean received a master’s degree in economics from the University of Freiburg, Germany, and an MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia.

She and her husband Bruno live with their two adult children in New York City. They have been extremely generous supporters of Friends Without A Border for more than 15 years.


Michael Stern founded The Big Wood Foundation with his wife Marjorie  in 1987. Its focus has been education, child welfare and veterans’ affairs. He has been on the Board of Directors of Friends Without A Border since 2007 serving as chairman from 2012-2014.

Prior to his commitment to charitable causes, Mr. Stern was involved in the fragrance business as president of Parfums Stern, manufacturer and distributer of Oscar de la Renta, Perry Ellis and Valentino beauty products.

Prior to that he was an investment banker, private investor and an attorney/CPA.

Mr. Stern, a graduate of Dartmouth College, Amos Tuck Business School and NYU Law School, is an attorney and CPA.

He and Marjorie have 2 children, 5 grandchildren and enjoy travel, theater and opera.
