An overnight hospital stay for a patient in Lao Friends Hospital for Children, including 24-hour medical staffing, meals, fluids and life-saving medications. (The average length of time that a patient is hospitalized at LFHC is 5 days.)
Meet 9-year-old Yong Wa, the first child hospitalized at LFHC when it opened in 2015. One of 21 children, she came to the hospital from a small village in Chompet District, just across the Mekong River from Luang Prabang. Her father brought her to the hospital when she became ill with a high fever. She was diagnosed with severe typhoid by LFHC’s staff. During her five-night stay, she received fluids for dehydration, IV antibiotics and compassionate care from the Lao nursing team.
